Brazil Slaps 5-Year Tariff Extension on Chinese Stainless Tubes
Brazil just locked in another half-decade of trade protection, renewing steep anti-dumping duties on Chinese stainless steel tubing through 2030. The $1,340 per tonne penalty hits nearly all exporters – with one critical exception shaking up the market.
Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals scored a rare exemption from these Brazil stainless steel duties, potentially giving them a major edge over competitors. For everyone else shipping circular grade 304 or 316 welded tubes (6mm-2,032mm diameter, 0.40mm-12.70mm thickness), the tariff hammer drops immediately under NCM codes 7306.40.00 and 7306.90.20.
Conical tubes dodge the bullet entirely. Traders should scramble to verify specs: misclassified shipments could trigger six-figure penalties. With Jiuli operating duty-free, savvy players are already exploring partnerships to leverage their privileged access. This move signals Brazil’s long-term stance – local tube producers get breathing room while importers face reshuffled strategies.
